On the occasion of World Water Day, the Water Agency of Mongolia, an implementing agency of the Government of Mongolia, once again recognized MCS Coca-Cola LLC as Mongolia’s “Water Ambassador” organization. The recognition honors the company’s contribution to protecting water resources, promoting responsible water use, and raising public awareness of the value and importance of water. The company has also been entrusted with the ongoing responsibility of continuing its work in these areas.

Guided by its slogan, “Bringing the World’s Brand to Mongolia,” MCS Coca-Cola is committed to improving water efficiency by reducing water consumption, treating wastewater, and maximizing water reuse throughout its operations.

As a Water Ambassador organization, MCS Coca-Cola achieved a major milestone last year through a public-private partnership by becoming the first company in Mongolia to supply treated industrial wastewater to Amgalan Thermal Plant for its industrial processes. This historic initiative marked a significant advancement in both Ulaanbaatar’s energy sector and water resource management. To implement the project, the company invested MNT 3.5 billion in additional treatment equipment and pipeline infrastructure. As a result, 40% of the thermal power plant’s industrial water demand is now met with treated wastewater, helping conserve an amount of groundwater equivalent to the daily water consumption of approximately 600,000 people.

With Amgalan Thermal Power Plant becoming a major consumer of treated water during the heating season, MCS Coca-Cola has increased its wastewater reuse rate to 45%. The company is working toward achieving 100% wastewater reuse by 2030.

Z. Batbayar, Director of the Water Agency: The Water Agency has a longstanding tradition of recognizing individuals and organizations that make outstanding contributions to protecting Mongolia’s water resources by designating them as ‘Water Ambassadors.’ By utilizing MCS Coca-Cola’s treated industrial wastewater for the technological needs of Amgalan Thermal Power Plant, households are able to enjoy reliable heating while also strengthening the long-term sustainability of Ulaanbaatar’s water supply.

It is highly commendable that this private-sector company continues to invest in increasing water reuse and improving water efficiency. We encourage more organizations to utilize treated wastewater and contribute to protecting our country’s precious water resources.

L. Myagmarjav, Chief Executive Officer of MCS Coca-Cola LLC: As a private-sector company, we will continue to play an active role in enhancing the value of water because water is a resource that must be protected. Valuing water means using it responsibly and ensuring that the water we use is treated and reused whenever possible.

In pursuit of our goal of achieving 100% reuse of treated industrial wastewater, we are not only working with Amgalan Thermal Power Plant but are also seeking other large-scale users who can utilize our treated water outside the heating season. At the same time, we are exploring additional opportunities and solutions for reusing treated water across various applications.

According to Mongolia’s industry standard, producing one liter of beverage requires 12.5 liters of water. As of 2025, MCS Coca-Cola has reduced its water use to just 2.25 liters of water per liter of product produced. Through its Water Efficiency Program, the company aims to further reduce this figure to 1.7 liters by 2030.
